At one with his work

Thank you Breasal O’Caollai for:
a- buzzing me into your shop as I was gesturing from the street
b- readily accepting to have your photograph taken by the stranger/weirdo with the camera
c- aligning yourself perfectly with the mannequin

The DLRCOCO traffic warden operating a few yards up the road was quite convinced that something very fishy was going on.

And yet, he is the one taking an active role in the systematic destruction of small businesses in Dun Laoghaire.
The parking fees and online retail have dealt a serious blow to the smaller family-owned businesses struggling to survive.

If Larry doesn’t hurry to resize my ring (jeez, that sounds really dodgy, I’ll have to think about rephrasing that one) I will make sure to visit Costello Jewellers,1 Northumberland Avenue, Dun Laoghaire.
Not to take photos this time, but to bring Breasal some business.

He is a real gent and he deserves it.

A bunch of ones and zeros saved my arse

Image

Poor planning on my part and the inability to figure out that September 29th falls on a Saturday this year meant that it was impossible for me to get Nana her birthday cards on time for her birthday.

That would be without counting on the digitalisation of images, email and broadband.

Shitloads of little ones and zeros have almost instantaneously transferred the kids’ birthday cards to their Nana two hundred miles away (which may not seem like much, well not much to anyone who’s been fortunate enough never to drive on a twisty Irish road stuck behind a granny in a Micra reaching 40 mph in second gear at 5,000 rpm)

2013 was a good vintage.
Finn drew a plane with a wing blown off by an explosion plummeting to the ground. Highly topical!

Image

Luca drew Mario Bros, with some nasty looking bats, pissed off fishes and psychotic mushrooms. He really knows what his Nana is big into.

Image

Mimi… well… Mimi… Ever the manipulator, she opted for a crowdpleaser of her and Nana hand in hand with big bright smile. She knows what the public wants, and she delivers. She’s trouble that Mimi, she’s trouble…

Do not judge the book by its cover

A day when I’d scratch my head and seriously wonder what it was that got me into this parenthood lark.
Can I have a second look at the small print?
What did you say the refund policy is?

A day when I’d happily swap Mimi-Medusa or Finnzexorcist for a Serano ham.

Luca was good.
He’s too busy being obsessed with Skylander Giants.

Oh, the glamour…

This time last year, I won a pass to the “photographers’ pit” at the London Fashion Weekend.

As I found out just four days before, the return flights were prohibitively priced, even for the blue-and-yellow-bus-in-the-sky. I had a sudden flashback of the ferry + coach trips of the 80s and I thought that it would be a good experience to travel down memory lane (and with Bus Eireann).

I wasn’t disappointed…

A- If the sight of extremely long legs (not attached to an insect or a cephalopoda) makes you uneasy, if the thought of clothes that cost more than a dozen coach round trips between Dublin Busaras and London Victoria leaves you cold, and if you fail to warm up to would-be models and over-enthusiastic fashionistas, please skip the images below.

B- If the sight of cramped spaces, the departure lounge at Bus Aras, nighttime ferries and deserted motorway services at 3 am make you uneasy… scroll no further.

c- But if you want to see the skimpiest pair of shorts ever worn by a fashionista, you’ll have to bear with me till the end…

Extremely Stuffed

Today I saw a couple of blackbirds fit to burst after gorging on berries.
It’s not normal for blackbirds to run for 20 yards while flapping their wings like mad things before they manage to peel themselves off the surface of the earth is it?
I even saw one that required the aid of a trampoline to get airborne.

The berries surely are plentiful this year. A sign that we had a summer.

Would you believe… a summer… we actually had a summer…
